Hind Every Mountain

Habakkuk 3:19 - “The Lord God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.”

You don’t have to step into Lewis’s magical world of Narnia to find a creature such as Mr. Tumnus who is a fawn or half man-half goat. First of all, no such creature exists despite how wonderful it would be if it were so. We see here that God will make a man figuratively speaking. He “will make my feet like hinds’ feet.” This paints the picture of an Oreamnos or mountain goat; a sure-footed creature that prefers steep rocky cliffs. The mountain goat is specifically designed to roam dangerous and rough terrain, seamlessly scaling mountains with no thought to the endless dangers that surround it. He is oblivious to the certain death that awaits it if one footing is off by a fraction. He doesn’t look down or around but looks forward to his destination.

God will equip you to scale the mountains in life so that you may make it to the high places He has prepared for you. Where does one start? Stop relying on yourself and start depending on Him. When you take your eyes off what is going on around you and start focusing on Him, a good work has begun. The key is to start moving while remaining completely enthralled in Him, and before you know it you are moving onwards and upwards in His strength. The focus is not on the climb itself but on the unbroken fellowship with Him for that is where His strength lies; the climb is simply the byproduct.

With His equipping, before you know it, you will make it to the “high places” He has prepared for you in His foreknowledge. “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” (Eph 2:10) “Should walk in them.”, what a thing to consider. Are you walking in them? Are you walking upon your high places? This all begins with leaning on Him for your strength and He will make your “feet like hinds feet,”. Only then will you be able to hind every mountain He has set for you.

When you focus on what is going on around you the result will be discouragement, frustration, or maybe even fear. As you are scaling your mountains there are many things in your way that could cause you to fall off the path. However, when your focus is on Him instead of your problems, He will keep you from slipping, tripping, fumbling, stumbling, and falling.

Without Him, in fear, you may be able to go through or around your mountains, but you will certainly not scale them, which is God's intention for you. Why? God wants you to experience the Jehovah-jireh moments in life, thus He will help you scale your mountains for “...In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.” (Gen. 22:14). This experience is reserved for those that have determined they should walk in and on the places God has before ordained. When we get to a place of elevation, we have a better perspective of what we have gone through, and we begin to get a glimpse of how God sees things. We will be left with no other natural response but to joyously proclaim Jehovah-jireh! A deeper understanding and closer relationship are achieved, for it is in the mount that we may know Him.
